Advocacy

“Advocacy is a political process by an individual or group which normally aims to influence public-policy and resource allocation decisions within political, economic, and social systems and institutions.”

As a special education advocate, we speak or write in support of, on behalf of, or in defense of another person or cause. It is also a way to inform parents of their children’s educational and others rights.

Children with Disabilities and their Rights (UNICEF, 2007 )

Article 23 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child is dedicated specially to the rights of children living with disabilities. Article 23 states that children who have any kind of disability have the right to special care and support, as well as all the rights in the CRC, so that they can live full and independent lives. The Government of Malaysia ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2008.
